René's profession was as a teacher at De Meerwaarde School in Barneveld. He very much enjoyed working there, where his main job was teaching the link class. This class was for students who had completed elementary school through special education, but needed an extra year for education in general subjects. In addition they received extra support and guidance to make informed choices for further education. René was also a mentor for this group of students.

Furthermore, René gave music education to a number of other classes at this school. As a result he was also involved in the selection and supervision of students who would take part in the annual talent show in the 'Schaffelaartheater' in Barneveld.
